How is your coffee tested for Mycotoxins (mold)?

We perform the mold test at the roasting facility before every roasting as part of our quality control program. Most importantly, we only use single-origin organic specialty-graded coffee, meaning premium quality and no defective beans. At the origin, the specialty-graded organic coffee cherries are hand-picked; then, they are manually processed and placed into a special “GrainPro® Hermetic Bag,” which protects against mold growth and insect infestation. Coffee that is stored in this bag is then secured to avoid cross-contamination. The bags are opened individually at our roasting facility when we perform quality tests in-house before roasting the beans.
The third-party mold test is usually necessary when the roasters use cheap (commercial grade), low-quality beans.

Before starting Beantween Coffee Roaster, we used to trade coffee by importing green coffee and receiving samples from all around the world. However, we soon discovered that most commercial-grade coffees were reaching our table in poor condition, and we weren’t even aware of it. At Beantween, our mission is to roast only specialty organic coffee that is free from any mold or toxins. We take pride in the fact that many of our customers have reported that our coffee does not cause any allergic reactions or stomach discomfort.

Which coffees are free from mold? You can avoid mycotoxins in coffee by purchasing from companies that source specialty-grade coffees. Specialty-grade coffees have been assessed as being free from molds and defects, and have scored over 80 out of 100 by a certified Q Grader.

How do I keep my coffee fresh?

To keep your coffee fresh, we suggest storing your Beantween coffee at room temperature in an airtight container or in the original Beantween coffee bags, which are designed with one-way degassing valves and zipper seals to lock in freshness.

What is Single Origin Coffee?

Single origin coffee refers to beans harvested from a single farm and sourced from one specific region. With single origin coffee, we can track the coffee back to its origin, including the farm, farmer, season, harvest, and processing method.

Does the way I brew my coffee interfere with the taste of the coffee? How does brewing method affect the taste of coffee?

It is true that the way you brew your coffee can affect its taste. Each brewing method produces a slightly different cup profile by emphasizing or downplaying some of a coffee’s flavor characteristics. For instance, one method can highlight a coffee’s acidity and create a light, clean body, while another method can accentuate the body and mute the acidity. Knowing the flavor nuances of a coffee is critical when deciding how to brew it. If a coffee has delicate, sweet, and sparkling flavors, you want to bring out those flavors. You can experiment and try brewing the same coffee on two or three different devices to experience this firsthand. Have fun exploring different brewing methods and discovering the unique taste of your coffee.

How do you measure coffee for the perfect brew?

Coffee is best served how you like it, so consider this starting point only and adjust to personal taste. When measuring the ground coffee and water precisely, you'll be amazed by the quality of the coffee. Many times, people use less water for more coffee. The result is a weak brew that could be very disappointing.

If you want to be precise, use a scale to weigh your dose. Measure water by weight is more reliable than measuring by volume, as the density of water changes when heated.

Our brewing suggestion ratio for gourmet coffee is:
2 tbsp (10g) of ground coffee
6 fl. oz. (188 ml) of filtered water

What is kosher coffee?

Our coffee is kosher-certified by an official entity. This certification verifies that the ingredients, production process, and food-service operation comply with the kashrut (Jewish dietary law) as standards stipulated in the Shulchan Arukh, the benchmark of Jewish religious law.
